No offence to women please, but i cannot believe how much cheaper womens car insurance is. I mean not every lad out there is a boy racer, and Im sure there are some manic women out on the streets more likely to claim than men.

I think its a very prejudice claim, insurers make, saying that women are safer drivers. I for one, dont intend on killing myself in the too near future by wreckless driving, so i dont see why I should be expected to pay more because of other stupid people.!!!!!

Opinions>

I’m a claims adjuster and I have over 125 open files for accident over the last 2 years. The bulk of my files involve men who are at fault for accidents, then old people (who are not the at fault party) and teenagers. Surprisingly the teenagers are all girls. Now this is just my case load.

In general, men take more risks than women in all areas of life to include their driving habits. While I see more women on cell phones then I do men, I see more men driving eratically then women. When I say eratic, I mean guys who are stopped in traffic and because they’re so impatient they drive over sidewalks, on the wrong side of the road, or through suicide lanes, just to get to where they are going. I have yet to see a woman do that. I see more men run red lights and tailgate then women. I see more men speeding then women. Women by nature are more cautious in their activities and do not take the same level of risk, or chance, as men do.

This is the Women Car Insurance advert from Sheilas Wheels insurance.

The song became so popular that “The Sheilas” are now going on Tour around Britain to promote their song advert but also their new single: “I am so Happy you’re mine”. A bit cheesy…but we love it!

The full lyrics here:
“For ladies who insure their cars
Sheilas’ Wheels are superstars
Girls are bored beyond endurance
Payin’ too much for car insurance
For bonzer car insurance deals
Girls, get on to Sheilas’ Wheels

The women at the wheel
Deserve a fairer deal
For bonzer car insurance deals
Girls get on to Sheilas’ Wheels

Women make the safest drivers
We could save a bunch of fivers
For bonzer car insurance deals
Girls, get on to Sheilas’ Wheels,
Girls, get on to Sheilas’ Wheels”

We often hear of inequality towards women in jobs/film roles/rights etc, but, I beleive men are also lacking fair equality.
Take abortion for example, people say ‘Its the womans choice’ … Im sorry, but when I last checked, it took a man to create the child and HE has NO RIGHTS. When a marriage breaks down, 90%o of WOMEN keep the children, men get no say. If you look to the past, men fought in World War 1 and 2, and you never hear feminist say Thank You.
Female car insurance is cheaper because they are women… I could go on and on … most women are just hypocrites. The world worked much better when people had roles.
To the first comment.

Yes, because working in a factory is EQUAL to fighting in a war. Your not getting my point.

I understand your point, but unfortunately, arguing with many media-indoctrinated people is like arguing with a tree stump.

Look at the double standards we have:

If a 30-year old woman chooses to delay marriage, it’s because she wants to be independent.
If a 30-year old man chooses to delay, it’s because he doesn’t want to mature and is afraid of commitment.

Jokes about male prison rape abound in mainstream media, but if someone jokes about a woman getting raped, his sanity is questioned (and I am NOT condoning rape, it is truly a horrible crime, but why is it funny when it happens to a man?)

Men are expected to pick up the tab in dates — even if she’s a high earning engineer and he is a data entry clerk. Where’s the independent woman now? (The typical illogical argument: "Oh, it’s tradition!").

Most men wouldn’t mind dating a woman taller than him, but she’ll be damned if she dates someone a half an inch shorter!

Women have the same oppurtunities men have. In most Western societies, they can vote, join the army, enter the workforce.
Motherhood is never forced on them. A woman is free to abort a child without even telling the father she was expecting (which is a disgustingly dishonest thing to do; it is the same thing as a man piercing his condom so his partner can get pregnant)

I think most women simply want the best of both worlds.
My take on the issue is a message to women: if you want to be independent, then suck up the responsibilities that come with it.
If strict physical entry requirements for a position or job (i.e. – firefighter) need to be "watered down", then you cannot do the job!

The men in the insurance office propped their feet on the desks, puffed cigar’s and pursued the classified ads in the paper. It was a Monday morning ritual. They were all all talking about the eye-stopper.

Mercedes 280 SL for sale. Sun roof. Loaded. Burgundy. Leather interior, stereo. $75.

Their mouths watered. But their eyes moved on down the column. It had to be a misprint. No one, but no one would sell that car for $75.

Finally, the talk turned to other things, and the car was gradually forgotten.

One salesman didn’t forget it though. He kept looking at the ad, and he finally dialed the phone number listed. A woman answered.

"I’m calling to inquire about the Mercedes," he said. "Is it still for sale?"
"Oh yes," she said. "It’s still for sale."
"And the price is $75?"
"That’s right—–$75"
"Well, I’d like to come out and look at it."

He drove out to the address given to him. It was a large, split level brick home with a swimming pool and tennis courts. The manicured shrubbery and lawns bespoke the presence of a gardener. An attractive blonde woman answered the door.

"I’ve come to see the Mercedes," he said.
She waved her hand at the double-car garage. "It’s out there. Here’s the keys. Just lift the door and crank it up."

The sight of the car took his breath away. He could see his reflection in the hood. It’s wheel covers gleamed. The interior was all plushy, shiny, tan leather and dark wooden paneling. He tried the sunroof and the stereo. Everything worked. The engine ran like a dream. The car was perfect. He went back to the door.

"The price is still $75?" he asked one more time
"Yes, it is," the blonde said firmly.

His hand was shaking as he wrote the cheque. But he couldn’t leave without asking.

"Lady, I just want to know why you’re selling this car for $75. Nobody would that car for that price."
She hesitated just for a moment, but then smiled just a little.
"I’ll tell you," she said. "About 5 years ago, I met and married the perfect man. He was tall, well built and good-looking. He was an engineer. He brought home about $200,000 a year and that’s how we could afford this house and all you see here. Our marriage went well. Everything seemed fine. There was just 1 flaw. 1 of our neighbours was a beautiful, sexy woman. And last week, the 2 of them ran off together."

She paused and smiled again.

"He called me this week.

"Now don’t hang up, Honey, just don’t hang up," he said. "You’ve been such a good sport, and I know you’re going to be a good sport about this too. I know i did you wrong. You deserve better, and I’m sorry. But I just want you to do me a favour: Sell the Mercedes and send me half the money.

Star if you think this is funny.

You deserve several stars. But, I am capable of giving you only one. The blonde’s sincerity could be seen even here. How I wish I had married a blonde! Now, it is too late. I am in my late fifties.

Unless you work from home, it’s worth spending a few moments, either with a spreadsheet program or on paper, to figure out exactly the value of a second income job.

People wrongly assume that you need dual incomes to survive these days, but actually, it’s completely untrue. And in many cases, a dual income actually ends up costing you more, in higher taxes and greater expense.

Start with your added income. Then subtract out all the related expenses: additional clothing costs (biz suits, make-up, hair care, your lunch costs, dinner costs (frozen entrees and take-out vs. if you prepared dinners), ever-rising GAS costs, car annual maintenance costs, car insurance (often cheaper for low mileage vehicles), day care, etc. Go online to irs.gov and calculate your taxes w/ and w/o your income too.

Figure your actual net income and divide that by your hours. Now… is it worth it, vs. more time at home?

As gas prices continue rising, I wonder if women will start reconsidering.
Thanks Ed!

Actually, I owe my understanding of this to my older sister who made a point of educated me on this. A few years ago she "did the math" and was stunned to realize that, for all her time and hard work (plus having to be the "superwoman" and do the housework at home too), she was maybe netting 75 cents an hour!

So instead she quit her F/T job, their household income dropped from $125,000 to only $65,000, and she started a little home-based business. So not only did their tax burden plummet, they could start deducting legitimate business taxes!

As result, their net after-tax, after expense income actually increased about 25%!!! AND she’s home all day with her kids, and they eat and live healthier than ever before.

And this was when gas was $1/gallon!

I think the problem is, most women just assume a dual income is necessary. But it’s actually just a scam, because the government wants the additional revenue stream.

I don’t know your age, but you are very wise.

We have always been on a progressive tax base.
Meaning the more one earns, the tax rate rises and affects total income.

Often the net take home pay from either or both jobs, becomes a diminishing return.

Calculating that may result in working for a very low wage on a second job. (Not to mention the stress on health)

Bear in mind that next year, 2009, we may very well see a tax rate increase. (We have heard the "promises" to do so). Don’t bank on lower wage earners getting a reduction.

The numbers of wealthy opposed to the numbers of middle class will not compute in enough higher taxes on the wealthy to offset a reduction of taxes on the, (majority), middle class.

I wonder how educated, (err uneducated), politicians are in mathmatics.

Ok, "cheap me" has been trying to find a second hand car (Opel corsa). Found one I might like at about 29k with a mileage of 167k on Carfind. Tried to get an eQuote from "First for women" – (I’m still waiting). Anyone could suggest any other reasonable insurance companies I could try? Or do any of you know how much I would be paying for insurance, just an estimate. Would also love some help with any other cars (preferably Opel corsa) at reasonable rates. Looking between 20-35k and no more than R800p/m. If anyone has info please contact me by email.

Thank you

PS: I’m in Johannesburg (Northen Suburbs)

Think of "Balance of Third Party", Fire and Theft Insurance. these premiums are materially cheaper.

It provides you with cover for damage to the other party’s vehicle in the event of an accident, and for your vehicle in the event of loss by theft, or fire.
However, no cover is provided for repairs to your own vehicle in the event of an accident. Some people feel this level of cover is adequate because if you have an accident which is caused by a third party, you can claim against that third party’s insurance.

In practice, it is very difficult to make such a claim, and it usually requires a civil court action to get satisfaction. The insurance company and the finance house (If you did not buy cash) will not be to keen on pursuing such an action on your behalf, so you will end up being liable for the outstanding finance contract.

I prever SA eagle, i know they have no cr.p when you actually need them.

I have used dial direct before without much hassels. try this site.

http://www.premiumsearch.co.za/dial-direct.htm

at 17% interest for 60 months you can go up to R32,000.

also try autotrader

One other piece of advice, make sure you get a roadworthy certificate from a reputable Testing Station. Make sure the car went to that testing Station, not only the papers….

good luck

I was insured with Swinton’s for one of my 2 cars. When i bought my current car (Estate Car) they quoted me over £700 but i could not get it any cheaper cos a previous insurance company would not release my no claims bonus (Nearly 10 Years) after my car was hit by a works vehicle. I finally got my no claims back 2 months ago and Swinton’s said they would amend my policy to include my no claims bonus. They told me my payments would come down from £45 a month to about £30 a month. I never got any letters or phone calls off Swinton’s.

I made a payment last month at their office as the direct debit had not gone through and i was told that it was my last payment and i was covered until next year.

I got a letter from Swinton’s yesterday telling me i owed nearly £100!! They wanted £51 payment on the policy as a final payment and another £45 cancellation fee. I paid it yesterday and i was told if i called them this morning they would set my policy back up and i would not have to pay a deposit.

I phoned them this morning and the woman i spoke to told me they wanted £45 deposit and £55 per month direct debit!! They quoted me nearly £500 for a year which is a complete rip off. That incuded my no claim discount of nearly 10 years. She spoke to me like i was nothing. I asked why they wanted so much after she told me yesterday that i had no deposit to pay and she would not answer me she just kept saying ‘Do you want the policy or not’. She was very rude to me and i am furious that she would not answer my questions. They seem to be making it up as they go along.

I found another insurance company today who quoted me £350 for the full year with a £35 deposit.

Can Swinton’s do this? Who do i complain to?

swinto should be closed down.
